Solar Arrays Move JM Family in a Greener Direction

On April 26, 2011, just a few days after Earth Day, DataScan unveiled JM Family’s first — and Georgia’s second-largest — commercial solar array at a special dedication ceremony at the Alpharetta office. JM Family’s then President & CEO Colin Brown, World Omni President Frank Armstrong and DataScan President Brent Sergot cut an electric cord instead of the traditional ribbon, a symbol of the company’s commitment to sustainability. Joining them in the symbolic gesture was Congressman Tom Price (R-Ga.) and Georgia Senator Ronnie Chance.

The solar array has the capability to capture and convert sunlight to create an estimated 285,500 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by 205 metric tons. That’s the equivalent of eliminating 477 barrels of foreign oil or a reduction of emissions from 23,000 gallons of fuel burned. Since DataScan’s investment in producing energy from a renewable resource, solar arrays have also been installed at JM Lexus in Margate, Fla., and can be found on the top of several buildings at JM Family’s corporate headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
